Hass, Robert
Hass, Robert( 1941– ),San Francisco-born poet resident in Berkeley, where in 1989 he became a professor of the University of California. He has written verse sympathetic to people in Field Guide (1973), Praise (1979), and Human Wishes (1989). He has also published Twentieth Century Pleasures (1984), subtitled “prose on poetry.” He has edited some of the shorter poems by Jeffers and translated poems by Milosz. He succeeded Rita Dove as Poet Laureate in 1995.
