Gallagher, William Davis( 1808–94),
Ohio frontier editor, whose poetry, imitative in technique but original in its descriptions of nature, is among the region's best. It is contained chiefly in his Erato (3 vols., 1835–37) and Miami Woods (1881). He also edited a regional anthology, Selections from the Poetical Literature of the West (1841).
