Fables for Our Time, and Famous Poems Illustrated

Fables for Our Time, and Famous Poems Illustrated,
by James Thurber, published in 1940.

Twenty-eight brief, wry, witty fables in the style of a modern Aesop, illustrated by the author, whose indicative titles include The Fairly Intelligent Fly and The Rabbits Who Caused All the Trouble. The nine poems, so popular as to be platitudinous, like Excelsior and Curfew Must Not Ring To-Night, are printed with illustrative embellishments by Thurber. In 1956 he published Further Fables for Our Time.
