In Cold Blood,
work by Truman Capote, published in 1966. Described by its author as a “non-fiction novel,” it tells of the murder of a well-to-do farmer of Holcomb, Kan., his wife, and two children, by two ex-convicts in the process of committing a robbery of their home in 1959. The aftermath of the criminals' escape to Mexico, capture, trial, appeals to the Supreme Court, and hanging in April 1965 is followed, in a fashion that opens larger social issues.
