Breakfast at Tiffany's,short novel by Truman Capote, published in 1958.
An unnamed narrator, a onetime resident in the 1940s of an old brownstone apartment building in the East 70s of New York City, reminisces about a glamorous fellow tenant, Holly Golightly, with “a face beyond childhood, yet this side of belonging to a woman,” and not yet 19. Independent since age 14, fay, and very appealing, she has already had a life for herself, including refusal of a Hollywood film career. Her background is as unusual as her life in New York: as a teenage hillbilly she married an older veterinarian in Texas, but she later became an uninhibited playgirl of café society. By a series of misadventures she is arrested as a go-between of a drug-smuggling gang and therefore flees to Brazil, never to be seen again by the admiring friend who writes her story as she passes into modern legendry.
