Adams, Charles Francis, Jr.( 1835–1915),
a son of Charles Francis Adams, was active in civic affairs, and president of the Union Pacific Railroad (1884–90). His writings indicate the wide scope of his interests: Chapters of Erie and Other Essays (1871), written with his brother Henry; Railroads: Their Origin and Problems (1878); a biography of Richard Henry Dana (1890); Three Episodes of Massachusetts History (1892); and Studies: Military and Diplomatic (1911). He also wrote a biography of his father (1900), edited Morton's New English Canaan (1883), and wrote his interesting Autobiography (1916).
