Most of the events take place in Harrison High, a typical American high school. Philip Malloy, a ninth grader, finds that his looks and his charm will not necessarily earn him good grades as they had in the past, and his refusal to take his studies seriously earn him bad grades in Miss Narwin's English class. Philip and Miss Narwin are throw together only by the whim of classroom assignments; he could have easily had another teacher, but their combination becomes torment. Philip's repeated ridicule of the national anthem in his homeroom with Miss Narwin gets him sent to the vice...
