Nightfall | Characters

The characters in Nightfall are not particularly notable. The most important ones are present mostly to represent Asimov and Silverberg's ideas. This means that they are primarily allegorical figures, meant to carry ideas rather than to be fully fleshed out people. Given the themes of Nightfall, beginning the novel with Dr. Sheerin 501 makes good sense. He is a psychologist who has special expertise in the effects of darkness on people. Having him called in to investigate an amusement park ride is particularly ingenious.
