"Tinkled" could be described as an example of onomatopoeia, which is the use of a word that sounds like what it means since "tinkled" does resemble the sound of broken glass falling somewhat. The phrase could also be classified as personification since it seems to be giving the quality of glass moving on its own - a human quality - to the glass itself.
