The NYU Wellness Exchange offers various programs and services to help with students' physical and mental health. These programs range from women's health to counseling. They have a 24/7 hotline for any emergencies of any kind.

Yes, the Student Counseling Center is a great place for lots of different resources. Every semester, you have the option of 10 free sessions with a therapist, where you can talk about anything that's on your mind. They also offer groups like stress management, dealing with eating disorders, friendship problems, etc. And the best part is that everything is free, so don't be afraid to get help if you need it.

New York University does have excellent health services and personal counseling available to their students.  I have been very pleased with my doctors (general practitioner and dermatologist) at the health center.  Both have been very caring and generous.  In fact, I have found all the staff at the Health Center to be compassionate and giving.  I once called to set up an appointment because I'd been experiencing some pain, and the person on the phone suggested I should just come in right away, as they have walk-in hours, rather than waiting a day or two for an appointment.

All students are required to have health insurance.  I have the student insurance with which I've been very happy.  I also purchased dental insurance through the NYU dental school's clinic which is also located in the Health Center.  While services take longer as the dental students are supervised by a dentist, they are very complete.  In fact, the dental students discovered some problems that my previous dentist had missed!

The Health Center also includes a Health Promotion Office which offers programs which include stress management and smoking cessation.  You can stop by their office and pick up free stress balls and free condoms, too.  Their focus is on wellness.

As for the counseling center, I also agree with what has been said about the programs and services they offer, including emergency sessions.  To clarify, I believe students receive a total of 10 free counseling sessions for the duration of their degree, not each semester (this is standard with other schools with which I'm familiar).  While I have not utilized their services,  I did set up an appointment last summer, but the counselor did not show up on time so I left.  She called me within a half hour of the appointment time (as she thought I hadn't shown up) to check on me and reschedule.
