What is the environment like off-campus? Do students venture off-campus frequently?

The environment off-campus is the rest of New York City, and with Greenwich Village as thecampus, students very frequently venture off campus and are even encouraged to do so. Many students visit the MoMA, Central Park, Chelsea Piers, China town, Little Italy, and Wall Street just to name a few things the city has to offer. Other popular choices are seeing off Broadway shows and walking through Times Square. Unlike suburban colleges, there is always somewhere to go or a place to visit.

The city is your campus. I'm sure you've heard that a million times by now if you've read anything up on NYU. But seriously, it is. Walking to class you pass stores and restaurants and boutiques and all sorts of places. But, the funny thing is that even though there are tourists (not a lot actually around Washington Square (10th-Prince St), but if you have classes up near Union Square (14th St) you are SURROUNDED, the streets are still full of students at NYU. The few weeks before students move in and summer sessions have been completed, the streets are pretty much empty.

But otherwise, students go everywhere, just depending on how adventuresome you are. My friends and I primarily hang around the dorms and the main campus, but we do go to Brooklyn often for concerts or to visit friends. So much to do!
