Each class is structured differently at NYU. I've had only good experiences thus far with my professors, however this is something that varies with each personal situation. Classes can be structured in lecture form, as well as smaller recitations to review the material at hand. Each professor has their own style of teaching, their own way of delivering information, and their own opinion on how to run their class. A course syllabus will be distributed on the first day of each class, which will outline the required work for the semester, what is expected of you, and how you will be graded. The syllabus is a big help in organizing your work throughout the semester and helps you to avoid any last minute surprises in both assignments and grading. A BlackBoard site is created for most classes, which is NYU's Internet forum, displaying important class information, distributed documents, PowerPoint presentations, class notes, images, the syllabus, upcoming assignments, and grades. This site is a big asset to NYU classes. In addition, prior to registering for classes, you can view teacher evaluations, and class evaluations on the specified department's website, to better inform your decisions for registration. Students who struggle with disabilities are always invited to visit the disabilities center which will assist you in finding a medium between your needs and the professor's demands, to make each classroom setting as comfortable as possible.
