Students Speak Out On Overall Experience
“Overall, besides the tremendous cost, I really enjoyed my time there. Here’s some helpful advice: one of the things I wish someone had told me before I started was that while grades are somewhat important (mostly if you will be attending graduate school), the most important thing is that you actually take an interest in what you are learning. If you can’t find a passion for at least an area of what you’re studying, chances are you picked the wrong major. I found that it was not that hard to get an A, but that it was easy to get through a class without taking everything that I should have taken from it. At NYU, there are a lot of required classes which are kind of a pain, especially writing workshops; they are required for all majors, and they are a huge waste of time. Although it’s important to pass, it teaches you how to write badly. The up-side to required classes is that while taking those classes, you have some time to decide on a major. I also suggest that you double major if you can work it out; from what I have heard, it’s not that hard, and it’s really helpful.”
“To tell you the truth, I never in a million years would have imagined myself going to school here, but in the long run, I will be glad that I attended NYU. I am in the business program. Just to start you off, if you like living in a place where it’s extremely easy to get lost in a shuffle of people if you don’t make an effort to make your presence known, then this is a great place. Don’t get me wrong, people aren’t as bad as they are stereotyped to be, but some of the things about this school are true. NYU is very much a do-it-yourself kind of school. You have to make an effort on your own to succeed here. It’s not like every other school where there are tons of orientation programs and lots of community activities so that you get to know people; you have to do it yourself. But to answer your questions about one’s personal and social life: are you kidding? This is New York City; this is where stars come to party. The only downside is that everything is crazy expensive, but hey, you work, so you’ll get by.”
