I recall reading this story in high school. It’s not only colorful and, elegantly written but can easily be converted into a play, a short but reasonable one. I think this is a great story to have students read; it’s all about not trying to be something you’re not, and finding pride in hard work. College students should be required to read this as an enterance requirement. It captures the grim of poverty, the glitz of wealth and the nasty color of greed. Its realistically humane.
