    Young's hobby is to play the flute, an activity which is comfortably within the realm of accepted family expectations in her Korean family.  Her interest contrasts sharply with that of her twin brother Chan, who has to fight to convince his father to allow him to play soccer with his American peers.  The siblings' diverse pursuits reflect their conflicting responses to the clash between their American surroundings and their ethnic heritage.  Young strives to please her parents in everything she does, doing well academically and practicing her music.  Chan, on the other hand, longs to embrace the American culture, and is often at odds with his family.
