The medicine man, or shaman, plays an important role in Native American culture. The shaman intercedes with the spiritual world on behalf of the tribe, asking for victory in war, for good weather, for bountiful hunting and harvests, or for help with other problems. The medicine man also tends to the sick, cares for sacred objects of the tribe, and is responsible for teaching native lore and history to tribal members.
