Specifically, Loki. Early legends had him being the god of fire, but his role changed to make him more of the Devil to the Norse gods. What role did Loki play in the development of man? Could he be called a hero? Posted by joe30pl on Jul 11, 2009. |

Loki's evolution to become more of the Devil reflects the influence of Christian mythology on Norse. Nonetheless, the majority of Loki's stories have to do with him being an outcast and a mischief-maker, even an evildoer, rather than influencing the development of human beings. Interesting. I recall reading some theories that actually put Loki as being an earlier god (before Odin/Woden was worshiped) and he was sort of retconned into the outcast role. But his becoming the Devil of the Norse does mirror that (religion influencing religion), provided that theory is true. I suppose that would Balder the Jesus figure, wouldn't it?
