The Story:
Mr. Jack Jasper was the choirmaster of the cathedral at Cloisterham. Young as he was, he was also the guardian of his orphan nephew, Edwin Drood, who was only a few years Jasper’s junior. Edwin Drood was an apprentice engineer who expected one day to become a partner in the firm that employed him, for his father had been one of the owners. Drood’s profession took him all over the world, but he came back at every opportunity to Cloisterham to see his uncle and his fiancée.
