Zorba
Musical by JOHN KANDER and Fred Ebb, 1968, based on Kazantzakis's novel Zorba the Greek. The action takes place around a sidewalk café in Athens and follows the fortunes and misfortunes of Zorba. The songs imitate Greek traditional music, especially the sound of the BOUZOUKI, a plucked CHORDOPHONE; among the best songs are Zorba's ballads The First Time and I am Free.
