Youth Symphony

SERGEI PROKOFIEV'S Seventh Symphony, 1951-52, his last, written to glorify the spirit of Soviet youth. Ostentatiously melodious and insistently harmonious, it was written in answer to his Soviet government critics, who claimed his works were tainted by "modern" musical styles. The first performance took place in Moscow in 1952.
