Xylorimba

(xylo-marimba; It. silorimbd). A hybrid KEYBOARD instrument, developed in the early 20th century, with a five-octave range encompassing that of the XYLOPHONE and MARIMBA. Xylorimbas were used in POPULAR MUSIC and VAUDEVILLE in the 1920s and '30s (as the marimbaxylophone).

It has also been used by classical composers, including ALBAN BERG, IGOR STRAVINSKY, LUIGI DALLAPICCOLA, OLIVIER MESSIAEN, Peter Schat, and Roberto Gerhard.
