Santūr

(Turk.; Arab., Pers. santir; Mod. Grk. santouri). Trapezoidal hammered DULCIMER, with 14 courses of four metal strings apiece and curved blade-shaped beaters. The instrument dates from the 15th century and may be the ancestor of the Chinese yangqin.
