Orchestral piece by AARON COPLAND, 1937, inspired by Mexican tunes. The title refers to a dance hall in Mexico City in which Copland heard a local group play Mexican popular music. The first performance of the work was given there, with CARLOS CHÁVEZ conducting. It became one of Copland's most popular works.
