Quintuplets

(It. quintina; Ger. Quintole; Fr. quintolet). A group of five NOTES of equal duration played against a normal grouping of four or three. An interesting example of a whole section of quintuplets in eighth notes against a waltz rhythm of 4 is found in the Dance of the Mermaids in NIKOLAI RIMSKY-KORSAKOV'S opera SADKO (1898).

Quintuple rhythm or time, grouping of five beats to the measure.
