Quartet

(quartette; Fr. quatour; It. quartetto; Ger. Quartett).1. A concerted instrumental composition for four performers, such as the string quartet, for two violins, viola, and cello. 2. A composition, movement, or number, either vocal or instrumental, in four parts. A vocal quartet might involve one each of the four standard voices, labeled SATB. 3. A particular ensemble designed to perform these genres.
