Pantonality

ARNOLD SCHOENBERG'S preferred synonym for ATONALITY, denoting the possibility of all tonalities, or the conscious absence of a single, preeminent TONALITY. Pantonality is almost synonymous with OMNITONALITY, the only difference being that pantonality includes atonal melodic progressions and uninhibited DISSONANT textures, while omnitonality tends to enhance the basic sense of tonality.
