Pantaleon

Large CIMBALOM invented by the great performer Pantaleon Hebenstreit (1667-1750), given its name by Louis XIV in 1705. The instrument was appreciated for its breadth of dynamic variation. While it was eventually superseded by the FORTEPIANO, it lent its name to the new instrument for a brief time.
