Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio

This opera's original text is in English, because the work was commissioned by the famous Covent Garden opera company in London.

Oberto is killed by his daughters lover in a duel. The murderous seducer leaves Italy never to return, and the abandoned girl is left to her futile lamentations. The opera was successful and still maintains a spark of life at its infrequent revivals on the Italian stages.
