Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio

Opera by GIUSEPPE VERDI, 1839, produced in Milan, the first of his operas to be performed.

Oberto is killed by his daughters lover in a duel. The murderous seducer leaves Italy never to return, and the abandoned girl is left to her futile lamentations. The opera was successful and still maintains a spark of life at its infrequent revivals on the Italian stages.
