Miss Julie
Opera by NED ROREM, 1965, after the drama by Strindberg, first produced in N.Y. Miss Julie is of noble birth. Strangely, she falls under the spell of the family servant, who dominates her so fully that at his behest she robs her own father. Distressed and repentant, she commits suicide. The music is appropriately melodramatic, set in a moderately modernistic manner.
