Kennedy, Nigel

(Paul), versatile English violinist; b. Brighton, Dec. 28, 1956. Kennedy was born into a family of cellists, and in 1972 became a student of the well-known violin teacher Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School in N.Y.

In 1977, Kennedy made his London debut as soloist with the Philharmonia Orchestra and subsequently performed throughout his homeland and on the Continent. In 1985 he made his first tour of the U.S. His interests range over the field of serious, JAZZ, ROCK, and POP music. He has been closely associated with the jazz violinist STÉPHANE GRAPPELLI and has led his own rock group. Kennedy's repertoire extends from JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH to DUKE ELLINGTON. He also played WILLIAM WALTON'S Viola Concerto.
