Kazoo

A toy instrument consisting of a short tube with a membrane at one end, into which the player hums, producing a curiously nasal tone. Also known as MIRLITON, and, in the 17th century, a flûte-eunuque (eunuch flute).

A similar effect to the kazoo can be created by putting a piece of tissue paper over a hair comb, holding it against the lips, and humming through it.
