Kalevala
The great national epic of Finland, compiled by the Finnish scholar Elias Lönnrot (1802-84). The source material, medieval epic songs, had survived primarily in oral tradition. Its verses contain numerous references to the healing properties of music. In several passages, the wounds of heroes are healed by chanting the story of how the wounds were inflicted.
