Jacquet de la Guerre, Elisabeth

French composer, organist, and clavecinist; b. Paris, 1659; d. there, June 27, 1729. A member of a family of professional musicians and instrument makers, Jacquet de la Guerre showed talent at an exceptionally early age. She was favored by the court of Louis XIV, completing her education under the patronage of Mme. de Montespan. She then married Marin de la Guerre, a church organist.

Her works include an opera, a ballet (lost), keyboard suites, trio and violin sonatas, sacred and secular cantatas, and a Te Deum (lost).
