An electronic keyboard instrument invented by Laurens Hammond in 1933. Its notes are produced by electrical generators. A special mechanism can alter the relative strength of OVERTONES of each KEY, thereby making it possible to produce any desired instrumental TIMBRE.
The Hammond organ is usually constructed in the shape of a SPINET, and it has two manuals and a set of pedals.
