Halka

Opera by STANISLAW MONIUSZKO, 1846-47, produced in its final form in Warsaw, 1858. Considered the national Polish opera, its popularity has never abated in Poland, but it is rarely if ever performed in Western Europe. The story concerns Halka's eternal love for her seducer. She kills herself when he marries another.
