H.M.S. Pinafore, or The Lass Who Loved a Sailor
Comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan, 1878. A sailor is in love with his captain's daughter. The inequality in rank seems unbridgeable, until a middle-aged baby nurse confesses that she had both the captain and sailor under her care and got them mixed up! This allows the marriage of the two lovers to take place. The sharply satirical LIBRETTO is matched by the musical parody of Italian opera clichés.
