Façade

"Entertainment" by WILLIAM WALTON, 1923, for speaking voice and instruments, to poems by Edith Sitwell. The music is a tossed salad of sentimental and popular tunes and quotations from famous operas. The thing was first performed in London, when Walton was only 21 years old. A second collection of pieces originally rejected from this work were collected as Façade IIand first performed in 1979.
