F-Sharp Minor
This key, with three sharps in its signature, is characterized by a delicacy of sentiment. There are but few symphonies in the key of F♯ minor, the most notable being the FAREWELL SYMPHONY of FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN. NIKOLAI MIASKOVSKY, who wrote symphonies in practically every major and minor key, assigned F♯ minor to his 21st, entitled, perhaps significantly, Symphonie-Fantaisie.
Two Russian piano CONCERTOS, the first by SERGEI RACHMANINOFF and the only piano concerto by ALEXANDER SCRIABIN, are in the key of F♯ minor. The romantic essence of these two concertos is unmistakenly manifested.
