Egmont Overture

The best-known portion of LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN'S incidental music for Goethe's drama Egmont, 1810, first performed in Vienna. Egmont was a historical figure, a Dutch patriot who organized resistance to the Spanish masters of the Netherlands but was killed in the process.
