E-Flat Minor

(Ger. Es moll). This is the key of seclusion and retreat from the common elements of HARMONY. With six flats in the key signature, it lends itself to brilliant technical devices for a piano virtuoso, but it is utterly unsuitable for orchestral writing. A rare instance is NIKOLAI MIASKOVSKY'S Sixth Symphony.
