Danse Sauvage
Piano piece, 1913, by Leo Ornstein. Its savagery is expressed by a series of rhythmic, DISSONANT chords. Amazingly, the piece shocked listeners when Ornstein played it in N.Y. and London on the eve of World War I, causing one bewildered English critic to describe Ornstein as "a new star in the musical sky that effectually pales the fires of SCHOENBERG and STRAVINSKY."
