Dactyl(e)

(Lat., dactylus, finger, in reference to the layout of the joints). A metrical FOOT with syllables arranged as one long accented syllable followed by two short unaccented ones. A rapid WALTZ without strong upbeat represents a musical equivalent of a dactyl.
