Caccia
(It., chase, hunt). Italian medieval musical form originating in Florence in the 14th century. Initially the caccia used words concerned with hunting and therefore was often arranged in the form of a CANON (or ROUND) in which one voice "chased" another. It was often combined with a MADRIGAL, with such compound forms becoming known as canonic madrigals, MOTETS containing canonic imitation were called caccia motets. Alla caccia, in hunting style, thus accompanied by HORNS. ANTONIO VIVALDI'S Violin Concerto in B-flat Major (c. 1725), op.8/10, is called La caccia.
