(The fairy's kiss). Allegorical ballet by IGOR STRAVINSKY, 1928, based on melodies of PIOTR ILYICH TCHAIKOVSKY, with choreography by Ida Rubinstein; the premiere was conducted by the composer. The scenario, adapted from Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Maiden, involves a fairy who kisses a stolen baby boy, then leaves him to be found by villagers. When he grows up and plans to wed, she disguises herself as his fiancée and reclaims him, sealing their union with another kiss.
