Belgian Americans
A wealth of different ethnic groups have migrated to the United States, each of whom at one time brought with them a rich cultural heritage. The United States is by far the most heterogenous society in the world. However, many groups undergo a transformation shortly after arriving in the United States. The transformation is called "Americanization" and involves adapting to a rigorous work ethic, fast paced cities, changes in diet and recreation, and often times learning a new language. The demands of an energized advanced capitalist society often causes ethnic groups to lose their connection to traditions inherited from their homelands. Although many groups often make a conscious effort to pass on old customs and values, out of necessity, their assimilation into American society inevitably results in some cultural casualties.
