Traditions

Candlelight Carols

Candlelight Carols services have been a Muhlenberg tradition since 1958. Held in Egner Memorial Chapel the weekend before finals during the fall semester, this beautiful service features performances from the Muhlenberg College Choir, along with student and faculty readings. Tickets are free, but seating is limited so you need to turn in a lottery form.

Geek Week

The fraternities and sororities have Greek Week, and the academic clubs have Geek Week! Different academic clubs on campus have the option of entering their club in this week of different competitions between the clubs on campus.

Jefferson Field Day

Each year, the Friday after the last day of classes is Jefferson Field Day. Students from Jefferson Elementary School in Allentown join students on campus for a day of track and field events. A huge number of Muhlenberg students and faculty spend the day running and helping out with the event. It’s a great way to have some fun with kids before starting to study for finals.

Marathon Theatre

During a weekend in the fall semester, members of the Muhlenberg Theatre Association participate in Marathon Theatre. For 24 hours, they put on short dance numbers and skits in order to raise money for different charities. The event takes place in Parents Plaza, so it’s fun to stop by and watch on your way in and out of Seegers.

Midnight Breakfast

Muhlenberg has recently started a new tradition during finals week at the end of the year. On the Friday night that begins the weekend before finals, Garden Room hosts a free breakfast at midnight for students. One of the best parts of the event is that a large amount of the faculty and staff turn out to serve the food and socialize with students.

Mr. Muhlenberg

During the spring semester, Muhlenberg holds a competition to see who will be crowned the next Mr. Muhlenberg. Several guys from each class year compete against each other in a variety of events such as swim wear, evening wear, and talent. Students vote for who they want to win by purchasing tickets for the event with their favorite guy’s picture, and a board of students and faculty act as judges on the night of the event to choose who will win overall. While some may complain that it’s sexist, it’s a really entertaining night and everyone has a lot of fun participating.

Red Doors

As a sign of welcome, all of the doors on Muhlenberg’s campus are painted bright red.

Through the Red Doors

Through the Red Doors is an event at the end of the spring semester that is run by Admissions for accepted students. A lot of current students enjoy participating in this day by serving on panels, giving tours, or representing different aspects of campus at tables during the information fair.
