Each thought, each action and emotion carries the weight of their whole life in it. When you read the book, you notice each thing as a wonderous achievement, for example, "Clarissa decided she would buy the flowers herself." is really a statement about being willing to fully participate in life. This is how they respond to splendid achievements of English history and culture, by being fully present in the moment of one day.
