The Story:
Miss Burke, who had applied for the post of paid companion to Miranda Hume, found her so rude and overbearing that she felt obliged to refuse to continue the interview with the rigid and autocratic potential employer. Instead Miss Burke blundered into the neighboring house and accepted a position as a housekeeper to Emma Greatheart, who lived alone with her cat Plautus.
