    Plot is merely the series of events in a story.  In Monster it may be difficult to isolate the plot due to the screenplay format or the use of flashback. The action takes place during a two week period in the life of Steve who has participated in an armed robbery.  He writes this screenplay from prison where he awaiting trial for this crime.  The plot revolves around this time in prison and his trial, but flashes back to the events that led up to the incarceration and concludes with an epilogue that tells how Steve's life works out. The series of events in this novel (its plot) serve to cause the reader to determine whether or not Steve is indeed a monster.
