The setting includes three different locales. The first is prison, the second is the courtroom, and the third is on the streets. The prison setting is the grim, brutal environment that Steve must endure. The courtroom setting reveals the hypocrisy of criminals dressed to be respectable, and distorting the truth to avoid conviction. The street life is conveyed through testimony. Steve's life leading up to the robbery are revealed here.
